October 20, 2020
Considering the vast scope of everything that’s taken place in 2020, it’s understandable that this year’s health insurance open enrollment has an all new element of importance to it. Here are some of the most important dates for those in need of medical insurance, including Medicare for those turning or over 65.
October 15 - Medicare Open Enrollment Begins
Medicare open enrollment began on October 15th and will run for a period of 7 weeks, ending on the 7th of December. This is the time when those 65 and older can enroll for coverage, including Medicare Advantage or the addition of Medicare supplements.
November 1 - Health Insurance Open Enrollment Begins
For individuals and families who need to purchase new coverage or change their existing plan, Open Enrollment begins November 1st. After December 15th only those who qualify for Special Enrollment will be able to buy health insurance.
December 7 - Medicare Open Enrollment Ends
The last day to enroll in Medicare or purchase supplements and/or an Advantage plan is December 7th. In the event that the deadline is missed, traditional health insurance would remain an option until the close of Open Enrollment.
December 15 - Health Insurance Open Enrollment Ends
Those looking to purchase medical insurance for the 2021 calendar year need to do so before December 15th. It’s worth noting that waiting until the last minute has not proven to be advisable, as agents, phones and websites are often inundated.
